Not-Back-to-School Photo Shoot (9th grade year)

Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality.                                                                             ~ Beatrix Potter

Ah, the lovely sister posing for a portrait.  The artist is busy at work.  What???

There is no school equal to a decent home and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent.                            ~Mahatma Gandhi

Once upon a time, all children were homeschooled. They were not sent away each day to a place just for children but lived, learned, worked, and played in the real world alongside adults and other children of all ages.       ~Rachel Gathercole

You will not reap the fruit of individuality in your children if you clone their education.                                          ~Marilyn Howshall

I homeschool because I want to engage my child’s heart, soul and mind. I know from my own experience with school that my heart was seldom involved, my anxious soul was of little consequence to my teachers and peers, and my mind was a constant mess of jumbled facts which meant little to me except to earn a passable grade.                                           ~Camie Madsen

I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same.    ~Martha Graham

Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.                            ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

  2. He seems like a wonderful young man and good for you for having the time ability and strength to home school. It is crazy how schools today are just assembling kids and pushing them along preparing them for jobs but not preparing them for life… also nice to see you boy likes what looks like a Lemony Snicket book. …m kids loved all 13 books and then his 4 part prequel….we are in total withdrawal of what to read next. Maybe you have some suggestions.

    1. Thank you for the compliment! We love the individuality of homeschooling. You’re right, that was a Lemony Snicket book. We also like The Mysterious Benedict Society books and The Guardians of Childhood series by William Joyce and Laura Geringer.
