November Blessings- Day 29 (Next Year Will Be An Adventure)

I’m sitting in the passenger seat of my husband’s truck. It’s just after 7pm and we are in the middle of “moderate” Salt Lake traffic on the freeway. We (my husband, Marcus and I) are on our way home from visiting my mother-in-law for three days. We are planning to move close to her next year so this was to get that ball rolling on her end. We saw 2 builders and drove around looking at potential land to build on. 0332496D-6CFB-4276-8C6C-78ADD92E717C
We have never ever built a home before so this will be a new experience for us. It feels both overwhelming and exciting at the same time.  The second builder we met with gave us some advice. He told us to send him photos of details we like that we want to incorporate. He also sent us to a website of home plans we could choose from and he can modify them. Or we could have our own draw up. Any advice from those who have “been there, done that” would be appreciated.

♥ So that is a little of what is going on with us. How about you? Who is excited for Christmas? Marcus goes on a campout this weekend to cut down Christmas trees for neighbors who have ordered one. He’s going to choose our tree as well. 🎄

  1. About 11 years ago we had the house we’re currently living in built and I designed the whole thing myself. We are also about to start a second story addition which I’m designing.
My advice is when you pick out a plan use graph paper and cut outs of your furniture to scale to make sure rooms work.
Things to consider are doors and pay special attention to window placement and sizes. Even think about plug in placements and furnace vents. 🙂
I actually make a cardboard model, just working on one right now. There are free computer programs that can help but they usually have design restrictions and are sometimes time consuming to learn.

  2. How exciting for you! You have an opportunity to put in the most valued features to you in your home planning. Money or lack of will be the limiting factor. At least that’s what I found when we did our remodel.

I’m looking forward to Christmas. Having a little one around really makes it wonderful, and it’s a joy to teach him the new vocabulary that goes with it, read the stories, and of course see his face Christmas morning when he sees that Santa has come in the night.
Right now he’s on pins and needles waiting; not patiently for his advent calendar, and for the Christmas Bears return from the long stay with Santa. They left December 31, 2016 to help Santa make toys for this Christmas like they always have.
He’s asked everyday this week if we can decorate so the bears have the tree to come home to, but I don’t decorate until after the bears arrive on December 1st. 🙂 That’s the way I’ve always done it. November is for Thanksgiving and December is for Christmas.

    1. Tell me more about these Christmas bears. How fun! I used to keep things separate to November and December as to their respective holidays, but this year I wanted my daughter to participate in some of the Christmas decorating while she was here for a limited break over Thanksgiving. I let her put up my Christmas town and she also helped with the porch decorating which I wanted to do while the weather was holding out. We won’t see her again until Dec. 15th. Also, my nieces came over the day before Thanksgiving and we always craft together so we made Christmas ornaments. I won’t see them again until Dec. 31st.

      1. The Bears. They’re a collection of a few of my special Bears that I’ve collected over the years, and my Children’s first Teddy Bears, and special Bears they kept throughout their lives. Now #1 Grandson is adding his favorite Bears to the Bear Family, and my son’s fiance added one last year.

On Dec. 1st I bring them out of hiding. When the tree goes up I put them around the base of the tree. There was a time I also set up my dolls and little tea sets too, but I don’t do that anymore just the bears, and little stuffed dog I’ve had since I was 19, and a reindeer or two.

On December 23rd the kids wake up and when they see the tree the first thing should notice is that the bears are gone! There is a note on the tree though from the bears. It says Santa contacted them and needed their help to finish up last minute toys and load up the sleigh, and help him deliver the toys Christmas Eve. They tell the kids/family not to worry they’ll be back soon.
On Christmas morning I arrange the bears among the gifts that Santa leaves. 🙂 My kids loved it, and now I’m carrying on the tradition with #1 Grandson.
Here’s the image I posted a couple of years ago with the gifts and bears on Christmas morning.

What does the Christmas ornament that you made with your niece look like? Are you post about that?

      2. That is so neat! I love it! I only took one cell phone pic of one set of the ornaments we made and I just posted it to my Instagram. I’m following you now. 🙂 That was a great pic with all the bears around the tree. What magical memories!
